To File or Not to File: Customer Claims and Firm Response After the Wells Fargo Enforcement Action
Using CFPB complaint records around Wells Fargo’s September 2016 enforcement action, this paper shows that enforcement increased claim production, shifted complaints toward named products, and strained timely response; the increase recurs after similar actions at other banks.
